Job description
The Marketing Store is one of the best-kept secrets in the US marketing services industry. We’re looking for your ideas and voice to engage consumers through our client brands. We are a brand activations agency and we run some of the largest promotions and event activations in the industry, including the award-winning Monopoly at McDonald’s and McDonald’s Essence Festival. Our clients include McDonald’s, The Coca-Cola Company, Infiniti, ISIS, General Mills and more!

We are looking for a Senior Software/Stack Engineer to join our Global Digital team, working with local and remote teams on global projects that range from CRM and Loyalty to Splash/CMS development. This is a contract to hire position (with a 6 month initial contract).

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively monitors/patches/maintains a wide variety of systems over multiple programming languages (Java/Python/PHP/Lua/Node/GoLang).
Develops new systems in any combination of the above languages.
Reviews/debugs vendor code for errors, security problems, scale and performance issues.
Assists some non-technical users with navigating ssh-tunnels and/or extracting data from systems.
Works independently on some projects and will collaborate with local/remote teams on others.
Provides direction and support to less experienced developers.

Research hours – 15-20% of your time will be spent on theory and research for projects. This time is for you to spend on researching new languages, tools, technology for use on future projects.
Language flexibility, want to write tools in a language that isn’t part of the deployed stack? Go for it, as long as it’s on the approved list.
Flex hours (shift work schedules on some days) after the first 2 months, including work from home.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
There will be times you will need to be up all night prior to a launch and will need to join conference calls between 9 p.m. and midnight to speak with remote teams in India, Malaysia and/or Hong Kong.
You may be asked to travel to one of our offices or one of the above locations from time to time (Duration and frequency are subject to business need and your comfort level).
Work hours become more flexible after the first 2 months; this includes telecommuting and/or remote work.

Skills & requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have either 6+ years professional polyglot development (note – this does not include markup languages) and/or a Masters of Computer Science from a Top 10 school.
Can program beyond proficient in 2 of the following languages: Java, Python, PHP, Lua, Node, GoLang. Can program proficiently in 4 of these languages and can read and understand logic/flow/structure of all 6 languages.
Familiarity with advanced Linux administration (understands what max open files are, some basic info about kernel network, etc.).
Must a proactive, resourceful, self-starter, who can achieve results independently and by working on a team.
Must use IDEs when available (we use Jetbrains IDEs, but will allow others).
Beyond proficient knowledge of MySQL.
Solid understanding of various data stores (RDBS, NoSQL, KVP Stores, Hypertable).
Moderate level of understanding of AWS and VPCs.
Must have or be able to obtain a valid Passport for barrier free world-wide travel.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Knows any of the following languages: C, C#, C++, Objective-C, D, R, Haskell, Scala, or Clojure.
Knowledge of hardware and networking.
Mobile development experience.
Understands various physical and radio-based networking components/cables/antennas.
Demonstrated ability to break down technical problems into non-technical analogies.
Can speak one or more languages.
