Hedge is a Bristol-based, angel-backed sustainable technology startup, designing a fintech app to empower society to invest in line with its values. Weโre scientists, developers and environmentalists pioneering the future of sustainable investment.
Hedgeโs sustainable investment platform is designed to enable young people to save consistently, invest in what they love, understand the global impact of their financial footprint and engage with their companies as shareholders. Weโre partnered with a tech-centric trading and custodian company in Bath and an Oxford based sustainable data analytics startup.
We are backed by a specialised group of value-adding angel investors from top-tier management at financial services companies including Goldman & UBS and have pitched to HRH The Duke of York at St Jamesโ Palace. We are a small, well-connected, highly energetic team with a strong academic background and a drive to make the world a better place. Weโre based in the NatWest Fintech Accelerator, at Temple Quay, Bristol (near the train station with fixed desk space), and have access to desks and pro-bono help at Engine Shed and LaunchSpace on the UWE campus. We get things done at lightning speed, set optimistic objectives, and work hard to meet them.

Job description
Whatโs the role?
The three founders (two men, one woman), plus one awesome intern, are looking to bring on a tech lead who will work with us full-time to develop a state-of-the-art sustainable investment product.
You will be working collaboratively with the team, especially our young tech co-founder, Ben, in a flat hierarchical structure. You will have a lot of responsibility and influence over the direction of both the product and company. You will be co-leading the development of our technology, setting up sprints and sprint reviews and problem-solving on a daily basis.
This role will be highly varied, with a focus on architecture and backend, server side development but you will also have the opportunity to work closely with product/UX so you will need to be flexible, with an ability to focus on different tasks throughout the week.
Skills & requirements
Who are you?
Youโre a dedicated and resourceful mid to senior level Software Engineer excited to join a driven founding team as the tech lead alongside our young tech co-founder. You are excited by backend projects and progressive tech stacks; enjoy the grind as well as blind optimism that comes with startup life and have a passion for positive impact. You have a โcan doโ attitude and are focused on deliverables, enjoy agile methodologies, are great at getting things done and picking up tasks that really need doing, whatever they may be. You are somewhat creative, enthusiastic about innovating from the ground up and excited to join a team that doesnโt always have all of the answers. Although you are humble, you are confident to succeed as the most experienced developer on the team, with the near-term opportunity to make hires, build out a team and co-lead development.
You have an understanding of Agile processes and Continuous Delivery; have experience building mobile applications and have worked extensively with server side languages. You are happy to get your hands dirty on front-end development if need be. You are a dedicated professional who holds and researches opinions on a wide variety of technologies and theories, such as authentication schemes and language selection, and are interested in the fintech startup space.
Experience & Qualifications
There are no minimum qualifications but an ability to demonstrate your experience is essential. You must be eligible to work in the UK.
You will be coding in Golang, therefore some past experience with this language is desirable. If you have no past experience, you must be willing to leverage previous experience with server side languages to learn enthusiastically and quickly. An understanding of or familiarity with kubernetes is desirable. Experience using Agile working practices and version control systems, such as Git is necessary.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis or race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status. We embrace diversity.
