New York, New York, United States 🇺🇸   (Posted Jun 11 2014)
About the company
Transparensee is a small but profitable company which has never taken venture funding, and we are poised for substantial growth in 2014. We make a search platform product that simplifies adding powerful search functionality to existing structured data. Our core product, the Discovery Engine, is an in-memory index which specializes in understanding the relationships among objects in a data set across hundreds of metadata points. We can handle large volumes of rapidly changing structured, semi-structured, and free text data. Our mission is to help data owners maximize the value of their data by improving the ease of information access and insight.

Job position

Job description
Come work for Transparensee, a NYC startup working on next-generation search and recommendation technology for movies, music, real estate and ecommerce

We're building Enclosure, a cloud-based SaaS application on top of our proprietary search technology. We think it will make a big impact on the way data-intensive web sites are built.

We are a small but rapidly growing company; we are profitable and privately funded, which gives us the freedom to explore interesting side projects, especially in the search/recommendation space.

We are looking for a senior full-stack developer to work on our app, a modern, modular architecture architected from the ground up using Ruby and Node.js.

Our tech stack

Ruby, Node.js, Go (future) on backend

React.js, SASS, Browserify on frontend

PostgreSQL, Riak, ElasticSearch

Infrastructure: Nginx, RabbitMQ, HAProxy

Our proprietary search engine

Git on Github for source control

Puppet for devops

Go (future)

Our work environment

We are a small, tightly-knit company with a playful startup vibe. We work together democratically and agilely on making the best product possible. We don't have fancy titles or fiefdoms.

Compensation and benefits

Competitive salary.

Generous health benefits: medical, dental, vision.

Flexible vacation policy.

Flexible policy on working remotely when schedule permits (full-time telecommuting not an option).

Free lunch and snacks.

Skills & requirements
Must-have skills

5+ years of experience with web-related app development.

Must be highly proficient in Ruby, Node.js, or similar languages/frameworks.

Must be strong on distributed, networked backend development: Building APIs, working with HTTP, replicated databases, queues, bash scripting, Nginx, SQL, etc.

Nice to have

Devops (Puppet, Chef, Nagios, etc.) experience.

Cloud orchestration experience.

C/C++, Java, Go.

NoSQL databases (eg., Cassandra, Riak).

iOS/Android experience.

Experience with data normalization/cleanup, scraping, feed processing.
