What we offer
This job offers a unique opportunity to make a real contribution toward the success of bol.com, the most acclaimed web store in the Netherlands. As a Software Engineer, you will work in the innovative heart of our IT department and develop applications and tools that measurably improve internal and external customer satisfaction. You can count on enthusiastic colleagues, a complex e-tail setting, and constant opportunities to help us optimize our architecture. And all of this in a company that continues to meet its own ambitious growth targets, even in an adverse economic climate.
Skills & requirements
As our Software Engineer you help to create the online shopping experience of tomorrow with proactive ideas that make life easier for our internal and external customers. Together with your Scrum team members – a multidisciplinary mix of analysts, software engineers and testers – you complete complex IT projects, ranging from Java based solutions that give the shopping experience an extra boost, to back-end improvements to our logistics and financial systems. And the challenge is twofold. You’ll use your up-to-date knowledge of Java, GoLang and Perl to develop, test and implement applications for the here and now, but you’re also constantly thinking ahead about ways to improve the big picture, about alternative solutions, new tools and innovative ways to improve efficiency. You’ll also use your broad and up-to-date knowledge to help bol.com in areas such as performance, scalability and security. You know when to apply cutting edge solutions and you’re familiar with modern best practices such as spec by example. You generously share your expertise with your team members and the rest of the organization. This is an enviable job for any Software Engineer who combines visionary qualities with advanced communicative skills and wants to broaden his/ her career path.
What you bring to the table
You are an innovative and realistic Software Engineer with passion for your work. You have established a solid track record in comparably complex, high volume environments – for example in e-commerce, the financial sector or as a consultant – and you can present deep insights with verve. You are fluent in Java and you speak more than just conversational GoLang, Perl, Scala and Groovy. Agile, specification by example and continuous integration hold no secrets for you. You are on top of software trends and developments – including open source – and able to advise on relevant options. You are looking for a role that bridges responsibility for ongoing improvements and mapping the future. You enjoy motivating team members and you have a feeling for the business. This is important, because you will often be the ambassador for ‘your’ solutions. Our developers are also regular speakers at congresses; you could potentially fulfill this role, too. In addition to this:
Bachelors’ or masters’ degree, 3+ years of relevant work experience
Mature discussion partner for business units, enthusiastic communicator
Healthy ambition to improve, mission critical attitude, natural team player
